Museum Event
New York at Its Core

Saturday, December 10, 2016
2:30pm

Museum of the City of New York

1220 Fifth Ave. (104 Street)
New York, NY

Join a Museum Scholar guide at the Museum of the City of New York for an in-depth look at the people, objects, and events that made New York City what it is today. Five years in the making, New York at Its Core marks the capstone of the Museum of the City of New York’s decade-long modernization and expansion throughout the building while maintaining its iconic Georgian Colonial-Revival exterior. A groundbreaking exhibition occupying all three of the Museum’s first floor galleries, this ongoing exhibition examines the city’s 400-year history and looks to its future through four themes: money, density, diversity, and creativity.

Visitors will start in Port City, 1609-1898, and World City, 1898-2012, for a look at New York’s dynamic history through artifacts and interactive installations. The Future City Lab brings that history into the present and toward the future through a fully interactive space where visitors are invited to explore the challenges that New Yorkers face in the coming generations, including housing and climate change.
