Economic Opportunities of Climate Change and Sustainability

Special Interest Speaker Series

Earlier this year, within the span of one week, record cold and heat record temperatures were observed in the U.S. and Australia.  These extreme weather events are examples of long-term climatic changes.

Lessening the impact of climate change presents significant economic opportunities for private sector actors.  Governments are seeking ways to build sustainable communities, ecosystems, and economies through actions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

A panel of experts will discuss these problems and potential solutions.

Moderator:
  • Rob Watson is Chief Science Officer of EcoHub Inc., leading efforts to ensure that recovered materials are put to their highest and best use.  Tom Friedman called Rob "one of the best environmental minds in America."
Panelists Include:
  • Amy Larkin, author of Environmental Debt:  The Hidden Costs of a Changing Global Economy
  • Peter B. de Menocal, who is an oceanographer and paleoclimatologist at Lamont–Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University. He is also Dean of Science in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Columbia.
