Join Wharton Retail Network (WhRN) to hear about trends as, hopefully, the pandemic winds down, safety concerns ebb and inflation looms. We all know about the shifts to online buying ... will that speed up even further as we move along? And which demographic groups are fueling retail growth across which segments?

Our guest is Don Unser, Chief Retail Strategist, from The NPD Group. Don brings over 30 years’ experience in retail. Working with data from more than 20 general merchandise industries, his presentation will explore macro trends including pricing, promotion, supply chain, shifts in consumer shopping behavior, and consumer expectations for product accessibility in-store and online.

Don has the advantage of daily inputs from NPD’s deep quantitative toolbox, and wide-ranging interactions with top product and retail decision-makers. Among the data assembled by NPD:
  • Retail point-of-sale (POS) information from 600,000 different locations
  • Millions of receipts from both brick-and-mortar and e-commerce checkouts
  • Over 8 million consumer surveys annually
Don will be sharing his perspective, and probably some intuition, across the U.S. retail landscape. We shall see some recent drill-down findings about areas of involvement for Wharton Club members in the Beauty, Fashion and Food & Beverage categories. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and some online networking with fellow alumni.

Working with the WhRN Steering Committee is Event Chair, Terry Pranses. Terry heads Pranses Research Services, which provides qualitative and quantitative insights for both new and reimagined brands, often teaming with their communications and design agencies. Prior to founding his firm, Terry was Vice President at Young & Rubicam Advertising, with involvement in client services and new business.

This is an exciting opportunity to learn about the latest trends and ask questions specific to your retail challenges.
