The Wharton Club of NY (WCNY) is proud to announce the second annual Wharton Alumni Business Plan Competition (BPC). The competition will kick off in early 2010 with winners being announced in April 2010.

About Wharton Alumni Business Plan Competition
  • The Wharton Alumni Business Competition is an initiative that is housed under the Wharton Investment Resource Exchange (WIRE) group of the WCNY.
  • Our purpose is to encourage early-stage companies and concepts by the Wharton alumni community by soliciting business plan ideas from them and providing a competitive forum for evaluation and showcasing of these business plans to potential investors, service providers, and the larger Wharton alumni community.
Competition Timeline
  • Jan 29, 2010 – Application submission is due. (Submission of application form online)
  • Feb 22, 2010 – Business plans and executive summaries are due.
  • Feb 22, 2010 through April 2010 – Rounds 1 and 2 of judging are administered online via Wharton Business Plan file sharing and judging software. Additional materials will be requested of the successful business plan participants
  • April 27, 2010 – Round 3 of the competition in NYC – Presentation of full business plans to a panel of judges
  • April 29, 2010 – Final awards at the WCNY Entrepreneurs’ Gala

 Applicant Eligibility Criteria

  • There must be at least one Wharton alumnus on each team.
  • Only early-stage companies may apply:  The company should have no prior funding from VC or PE firms, no more than $100K from angel investors, and no more than $200K in revenue.

  2. A $125 application fee is required for all entrants who will be notified in the ensuing days with payment instructions. This fee helps offset the processing of applications and support costs for the competition.
Judging
  • Each judge will only judge one round.
  • Judges will be asked to evaluate 4-7 executive summaries or business plans during round 1 and 2.
  • Round 3 judges will need to attend the in-person final competition event on April 27, 2010 in New York City.

Business Plan Competition Prizes and Benefits
  • Cash and in-kind prizes for the top 3 winners, which will be awarded April 29, 2010 at the WCNY Entrepreneurs’ Gala. Additional prize information to be revealed shortly.
  • Assessment of your plan by experienced judges.
  • Exposure to WCNY’s extensive membership as well as to prominent investors and sponsors.
Sponsors
  • The Business Plan Competition is also seeking sponsors for the event who are willing to contribute funding and/or in-kind services which will be used to fund the event and the prizes which are distributed to winners.
  • Sponsors will be prominently featured in the Business Plan Competition website, program booklet and event signage as well as in ongoing communication to the extensive Wharton alumni community.
