WCNY Funded $200K for the COVID-19 Work Relief

Early in the COVID pandemic, it became clear the impact would be deeply painful here in the NYC area.

Kenneth Beck, WG'87 and Chairman WCNY recalls the inspiration behind the Covid Work Relief Initiative, "Our mission is to help Wharton Alumni. If we cannot help them now, when would we? Wharton Alumni who lost their jobs due to COVID will need a lifeline. We can provide them with time to clear their head, money to cover a few weeks of expenses, and meaningful projects to keep them sharp while helping them connect with potential employers."

The WCNY Board swiftly allocated $200K for the WCNY COVID Relief Program.

The WCNY COVID-19 Relief Program matched WCNY alums/ae with short-duration and high-impact projects with Wharton-affiliated host businesses. A few of our alumni landed full-time jobs or additional projects that the host companies subsequently funded. "WCNY has stepped up to address the needs of alumni by offering business and networking opportunities with compensation. This program is a win-win for hiring companies and consultants," notes Sharon Mosse, marketing consultant/CMO, who participated in the program.

Through the COVID-19 Work Relief Program, 16 Wharton alums led projects ranging from financial modeling to website redesign and revenue-generating ideas in organizations from non-profit arts to cryptocurrency.
