Social Media Strategies for Investing

Social Media Speaker Series Event

Join Brian Egger and the Social Media Speaker Series Committee for an insightful presentation that will help attendees understand how they can use social media and crowd-sourcing tools to inform their financial and investment decisions. Social media has become a key source for learning about news before it hits the mainstream media, and investors are finding new ways to glean sentiment signals from social media websites.

The presentation will begin with a short history of the regulatory and business events that led to the emergence of modern social finance. Attendees will then be introduced to how investors and business professionals can use Twitter as a research and communications tool. Participants will learn how to use StockTwits in order to follow the commentary of knowledgeable investors and monitor market sentiment. You will also be exposed to important crowd-sourcing tools, such as Estimize and SumZero, used by professional investors. Finally, participants will be introduced to several financial technology companies, such as Dataminr, Gnip, and Social Market Analytics, that provide professional traders with insights into stock market moves.
