How and when the momentum restarts is crucial to the success of the leader, the team and the organization – not to mention the 40% of new leaders that fail in their first 18 months and that situation’s associated out of pocket and opportunity costs.
This talk is about how leaders can make the best possible starts in new roles, deliver better results faster and reduce the risk of failure. It focuses on managing the different stages of on-boarding differently and is delivered both from the perspective of the company and of the new leader. The stages include:
• “Lombardi Time” before the first contact between company and candidate
• “The Dance of the Bumble Bees” after the first contact but before the offer
• “Due Diligence” between offer and acceptance
• “The Fuzzy Front End” between acceptance and official start date
• “Under the Microscope” the first 100 days in a new role

Michele Prenoveau is one of the leaders of Goldman Sachs Learning and Professional Development. After several years in Strategic Human Resources and Executive Development at Citibank, Michele directed Organizational Development and Learning in a technology professional services firm in New York City. She has supported organizational learning and achievement in the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Europe and the Middle East. Applying her human systems and collaborative change skills and Cornell and American University education, Michele has worked with organizations in financial services, technology and in the world of not-for-profits.
George Bradt is Managing Director of the executive on-boarding group, PrimeGenesis, and brings a rare perspective on the best approaches to moving into complex, high stakes new roles and jumpstarting teams to deliver better results faster. Before founding PrimeGenesis, George spent the first two decades of his career in sales, marketing, and then general management at companies including Lever Brothers, Procter & Gamble and Coca-Cola across North America, Europe and Asia. Thus George brings a wealth of knowledge for us to tap into. George was educated at Harvard and Wharton and is the Executive Vice President of the Wharton Club of New York.
