Tom Courtney is a private equity investor and investment banker. He has been advising clients on financings and buying and selling businesses since 1986, and making private equity investments since 1999. He started The Courtney Group in New York City in 1995 after working at Morgan Stanley, Alex. Brown & Sons, and James D. Wolfensohn, Incorporated. The Courtney Group serves middle market companies with revenues between $20 million to $500 million in consumer, chemical, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and technology industries. In 2003, the firm moved to Newport Beach, California where the firm provides Wall Street experience and contacts combined with an entrepreneurial, West Coast spirit. Tom has completed 20 private equity investments and advised hundreds of companies.
Tom got an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School in 1990 and undergraduate degree in Economics in 1986. He led his Wharton Class in the planning and fundraising committees for his 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th Reunions. He was president and chairman of the Wharton Club of New York between 1995 and 2003. He helped found and has served on the Executive Committee of the Wharton Private Equity and Venture Capital Association. He is married with four children ages 17, 16, 13, and 9.
