Special Event Marketing Volunteer - Joseph Wharton Dinner Committee

Reports to Vice President of the Programming Division

The Division:
The Programming Division is responsible for identifying, inviting and presenting the Wharton community with interesting and stimulating speakers as well as coordinating the annual Joseph Wharton Awards Dinner. The Speaker Series is active throughout the year and includes sub-categories covering Authors, Special Interests, Social Media, Women’s Initiatives, Entertainment, Sports and Government. The Joseph Wharton Awards Dinner is the premiere business school alumni event in New York City. The Joseph Wharton Awards recognize exceptional leaders within the alumni community in four distinct categories: Young Leadership, Social Impact, Leadership and Lifetime Achievement. The event began in the mid 1970's, and in 2006 the Wharton Club of New York revived the club tradition of hosting this prestigious event, strengthening the notion that the Wharton Alumni Association is one of the most exclusive and powerful communities in the world. The volunteer is responsible for generating awareness of the Joseph Wharton Awards Dinner to maximize the engagement of the Wharton community and attendance for this event.

Responsibilities:
Working closely with the Vice President and other members of the Club’s Management Team, the volunteer is responsible for all marketing activities related to the Joseph Wharton Awards Dinner, ensuring a high level of attraction and attendance of alumni members. We are looking for someone who has demonstrated experience in the marketing field and particularly, in launching events of this nature. You will be expected to utilize marketing, public relations and sales skills to provide insight on the event and its award recipients to varied audiences. You will work with the VP of Programming and other committee members to come up with concrete recommendations and ideas to drive engagement. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with the Club’s leadership, fellow volunteers and the larger WCNY membership and engage with them about this unique event.

Time Commitment:
Time will vary throughout the year, but it will be approximately 2-4 hours per week on average. There may be a greater time commitment as the event approaches in mid-Fall.

Qualifications:
All volunteers must be supporting members of the Wharton Club of New York. The type of person would be most suited for the position: an experienced marketing professional with event organization experience and PR/press contacts that can be utilized to expand our reach. Volunteer must have exceptional organizational and people skills, and will be able to perform varied tasks related to this effort. We are looking for people who have the time to give to the Club. All volunteers must adhere to Club policies as evidenced by their signing an annual acknowledgement form.

Application Process:
Interested volunteers should complete the volunteer application and submit a resume to Gabriela Sanchez, the Club’s Administrator at gsanchez@whartonny.com.  Once the submission is received, the applicant will be contacted by one of the Club’s volunteers. The Club expects that each selected volunteer will treat this volunteer "job" as seriously as a professional job and recognize that it is an extension of his or her professional world.
