Special Access Paul Taylor Dance Company Including Meet and Greet with S&P Global CEO Doug Peterson
WCNY Arts & Culture Group

Join us for an evening at the ballet with Paul Taylor Dance Company, featuring a meet and greet with Doug Peterson, President and CEO of S&P Global. Paul Taylor Dance Company kicks off their Lincoln Center season next week, and we are excited to attend their performance on November 13th to view Echo (Lovette), The Word, and Promethean Fire. During the intermissions, we will join Doug Peterson in the Patrons Lounge where he will share his experience on the Board of Directors of Paul Taylor Dance Company.
About the company
Dancemaker Paul Taylor (1930-2018) first presented his choreography with five other dancers in Manhattan on May 30, 1954. That modest performance marked the beginning of a profound, uninterrupted creative output that shaped the future of American modern dance and continues to this day.
Since its earliest days, the Paul Taylor Dance Company has toured to venues throughout the United States and around the globe, from college campuses and rural towns to the world’s leading opera houses and performing arts centers. The Company has performed in more than 600 cities in sixty-six countries, including landmark tours and engagements in North and South America, China and the Far East, Great Britain, Eastern and Western Europe, Scandinavia, Africa, India, and the Middle East.
Taylor dancers are known for their athleticism, courage, sincerity, power, grace, and expression. But in addition to all of that, the hallmark style of the company is to initiate all movement from the back. Paul Taylor was a competitive swimmer with large physical build, but incredible fluidity and speed. The style he created emerged as a fusion from hours in the pool and the dance styles of George Balanchine, Charles Weidman, and Martha Graham, among many others.
Taylor dancers vary greatly in height, dance training, and their backgrounds. There is no single look for the Company, but more a feeling they exude – a quality of authenticity, power, fearlessness and community when they dance.
