Our three panelists will be:
  • Dan Gellert (WG'06), Director of Mobile for TripAdvisor Flights.  Dan joined TripAdvisor in June 2013 when it acquired GateGuru, where he was co-founder and CEO.  GateGuru is a leading mobile application designed to help travelers navigate the "day-of travel.”  Dan raised $1.3MM in angel funding for GateGuru before the successful sale to TripAdvisor.  Prior to founding GateGuru, Dan was a venture capitalist at Time Warner Ventures, an investment banker at JPMorgan and an M&A professional at a telecommunications company.
     
  • Joe Meyer (WG'97), former CEO of HopStop, a top-ranked mapping app acquired by Apple in 2013. Joe was named Entrepreneur of the Year in 2012 by Crain's New York Business, and was #9 on Business Insider's 2013 "Silicon Alley 100" list.  Prior to leading HopStop, Joe was VP of Business Development at Quigo (acquired by AOL), an EIR at ONSET Ventures, and a GM at eBay. Joe was also on the Board of Directors of Kalexo (acquired by Autodesk), and on the Board of Advisors of Adtuitive (acquired by Etsy), Belief Networks (acquired by Benefit Focus), Spongecell and Snooth. Joe is also co-founder of a new non-profit career networking initiative called ExecThread (www.execthread.org).
     
  • Neil Vogel (W'92), CEO of About.com (an IAC Company), one of the largest sites on the Internet that helps millions of people discover, learn about, and be inspired by topics ranging from parenting and healthcare to cooking to travel. Neil also serves Chairman of the Board of Recognition Media, which he co-founded in 2004 and for which he served as CEO through 2012.  Recognition Media owns and produces awards shows and media properties including the Webby Awards. Neil is also a Venture Partner at FirstMark Capital.  Prior to founding Recognition Media, Neil served as Chief Corporate Development Officer at Alloy Media + Marketing and VP in the Investment Banking group at Ladenburg, Thalmann & Co.
Our panelists will share the key lessons they've learned over the years leading their companies (e.g., early stage, intermediate/later stage, financing, acquisition, etc.).  As always, there will be opportunities for your questions.
