Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality: Producing the Future

How Creative Producers are Innovating for the Next Generation of Immersive Experiences
Special Interest Speaker Series

The explosion of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in the past five years has led to a growing consumer market for immersive experiences, and the landscape for even more acronyms – mixed reality (MR) and extended reality (XR) – expands as device manufacturers, software developers, and content producers introduce new market segments for interactive entertainment and business productivity.

Analysts see robust growth in shipment of AR glasses over the next 3 years, to 68.9 million units, according to Statista, and the growth of mobile AR experiences will increase with the rollout of 5G mobile network connectivity. Niantic, the developer of the popular Pokémon Go!, and the forthcoming Harry Potter: Wizards Unite AR games, recently raised $245 million at a valuation of $4 billion. Similarly, VR devices and solutions will expand globally, with Market Research Future projecting $100 billion in VR global revenue by 2027.

Fortune 100 companies and government and military purchases of VR and AR hardware is demonstrating a shift in how training will be conducted: Walmart announced its purchase of 17,000 Oculus Go headsets for in-store VR training last September, and in November, the U.S. Army announced a $480 million deal with Microsoft for a new class of AR headsets.

In this session, we will present work from three leading New York VR and AR producers, who are working with institutions ranging from museums, corporations, and agencies to develop the next generation of immersive experiences.
